What are you feeding your mind?

live think Oct 24, 2020

With the cooler seasons amongst us, one of my favorite activities is finding a great book and diving in!

Books I've finished recently:

  • Stillness is the Key - by Ryan Holiday
  • Untamed - by Glennon Doyle
  • Braving the Wilderness - by Brene Brown
  • The Big Leap - by Gay Hendricks
  • What I Know for Sure - by Oprah Winfrey

What's currently on my nightstand:

  • High Performance Habits - by Brendon Burchard
  • Playing Big - by Tara Mohr

What's next:

  • Think Like a Monk - by Jay Shetty
  • Becoming Supernatural - by Dr. Joe Dispenza
  • Deep Work - by Cal Newport

You may have noticed a theme....THE MIND.  And how our beliefs and thoughts impact our experiences in life.

I've taken thousands of hours of continuing education courses and have developed a vast skillset in which to produce amazing results for my clinical clients.  But something more is necessary.  The mind.

Understanding how our minds influence our physiology and disease and gaining skills in working with belief systems is required to help clients attain health and vitality.  Thought leaders David Bulter and Lorimer Moseley both have demonstrated the effectiveness of a mind body approach in physical therapy.  They will continue to positively shape our profession.

The journey into our minds of course includes my own.  My beliefs around my identity, my profession, my relationship with the healthcare system.  But more importantly how to let go, be present, and simply be me.

As a physical therapist we see ourselves as movement experts.  Yet I have become much more.  I am a guide.  And one that has the internal resources to connect with others in a powerful and meaningful way in order for them to discover their fullest potential.  And many times that has nothing to do with what we are trained to be.

Our physical bodies and all their amazing anatomy are complex entities.

Our minds are even more complex yet are what facilitate our experiences.

Every client we serve has an intention to better experience life.  In order for that to happen, we must engage both the physical body as well as the mind for health and well being.

Think.  Feel.  Live.  Differently.

I'm in, are you?
